An Update by Larry Ryan, Sr. on October 28, 2011
Eric and Dan will be "Boots Dirty" in Kabul tomorrow. Here are their mailing addresses:
SFC Daniel Bronk, HQ |
Col Eric Ahlness, HQ Zabul, ADT FOB Lagman APO AE 09383 |
A number of members of Post 39 attended the deployment ceremony today for the Minnesota National Guard "Agri-Business Development Team" as they depart forr a 1 year tour of duty in Zabul Province, Afghanistan. This deployment was significant because the 22 member team is being commanded by a member of Post 39, Col Eric Ahlness; and his Admin NCO is also a member of the post, Sgt 1st Class Dan Bronk.
We will be posting their mailing info on the bulletin board at the post, and will try and get it in the next newsletter. But in the meantime, keep Eric, Dan and all the team members as well as the other service members in your prayers. In addition, we have committed the post to assisting their families in any way we can. Eric has his wife Lori and his daughter Ellen holding down the fort while he is gone.Dan has a wife and 3 children all under the age of 12. Don't hesitate to volunteer if they have a need that you may have a skill for.

People Who Volunteer Live Longer, Study Suggests
A study published recently in the journal Health Psychology says that "People who volunteer for selfless reasons, such as helping others, live longer than those who don't lend a helping hand." Here is a Yahoo! News article about the People Who Volunteer study. The study looked at results from the Wisconsin Longitudial Study, which followed a random sample of over 10,000 Wisconsin residents from their high school graduation in 1957 to the present.
