Fellow Legionnaires:
Now that we are into a new year, it might be good to look back at the past year. We have
entered on our 100th year as an organization and as a Post. I think that we have grown as
a family, with many hands pitching in on our projects. On the other hand, we have run
into a few financial challenges: First we had to replace our hot water heater, then it was
our freezer in the kitchen. These turn out to be minor problems. About the end of
November, we found out that we needed to replace two of the five of our HVAC
(Heating/Ventilation/Air Conditioning). These will be replaced by the time you read this.
The other three units will be replaced in the spring. The refrigerant used by these units
is no longer available by law. This replacement is a significant financial burden, in the
$70,000 range. This means that over the next few years we need to do some serious fund
raising. On the plus side, there are rebates and other incentives available. As usual, we
will do whatever we need to do to survive.
On a better note, I would like to publicly acknowledge Bob Holmstrom’s donation of
$500 from the sale of his book. If you don’t have a copy yet, he still has copies available.
Here is wishing for a holy and prosperous New Year. May God bless us all, and may He
bless and keep our troops safe. May God
bless these United States.
Commander Tom

Thought of the day:
Veterans are people who at one point in their life wrote a blank check payable to the United

Hello Ladies!
We have turned the corner into a new year of endless opportunities!
There are still more Veterans out there that need us and we are here
to help!
Looking back, we have done very well at raising money and putting
those dollars to work for homeless veterans, local veterans, overseas
soldiers and veterans that need just a little bit more to let them know
we care and bring a little sunshine to their life. That is success to me!
Looking forward, there are new projects on the horizon. We talked
about it briefly at our December meeting. There are homes for women veterans in place where we can
help. We will be supplying one of the homes with housewares and personal items. On January 22nd, we
will make and serve lunch at CRRC, and we will have our eyes and ears open for future needs where we
can help and do it.
We will continue to involve ourselves when we can in the community including the schools!
March 9th, will be our Antique Sale and March 23rd, will be our Caribbean dinner!
It is going to be a great year! Jenny Nelson, Auxiliary President Unit 39
