March/April 2019

Our Motto: “Supporting our Troops, Past and Present”

COMMANDER’S CORNER

My Fellow Legionnaires;

The calendar says it is almost Spring but as I look out the window, I doubt we will see green grass before the end of June. I am not a big fan of snow and cold, and I figured we had enough by February 15. I guess we can only put up with the weather we get and hope for summer. Hopefully April will be less white than it was last year.

Now it is time to start to plan for our busy spring and summer. We have the Caribbean Dinner on Saturday, March 23. The Silver Plate Dinner is on May 4th. Memorial Day is on Monday, May 27. June is very busy with the District Convention at Post 39 on Saturday, June 8; Flag Retirement at the Vet’s Camp on Saturday June 8; and the 4th and 5th District Family Picnic on Sunday, June 9. The Department Convention is in Willmar from July 11 through July 13. May God bless us and watch over our busy year. May He also bless and watch over our troops, especially those in harm’s way, and may He bless the USA.

Hello Ladies! March is here and I hope you are ready for a fun month! On March 9, we are having our Annual Craft and Antique Market. A fresh name to a great event! Our tables are sold out! We have some new crafters as well. Back by popular demand, we are having our Caribbean Night again! We were able to do some significant veterans projects, with the proceeds of these events! Good job ladies!!

I am looking forward to another productive year. I am so grateful that we all work so well together! It sure makes life easier!

On a sad note, we have lost some of our Auxiliary Members in the past few months…Jean Kuehl, Marilyn Huot, Agnes Durose and Genevieve Salisbury. May they all rest in peace.

Remember our veterans and don’t forget that it is very cold out there for our homeless veterans…

“Friendly Reminder” If you have not sent in your membership dues, please do so. The Unit is looking forward to having a 100% membership paid for 2019.

Jenny Nelson (Auxiliary President)

Quote for the day:

BAR & HALL

ENOUGH is ENOUGH!

That seems to be a popular theme that everybody is expounding on these days. I’m right there with you!

In as much as it may be difficult to find a bright side to Mother Nature’s latest challenge, here’s an idea. Leave your shovel in a snow bank, put the snow blower in moth balls and join some friends and family at YOUR American Legion Club 39 while making plans for the coming summer. (Yes, it will happen!). The parking lot is plowed, the heat is on, the beer is cold, the food is tasty and our staff awaits you.

The beer and drink of the month specials are:

MARCH APRIL

Beer – Tap Budweiser - $2.00 Beer – Schmidt - $2.50 Drink – Jameson - $3.50 Drink – Malibu - $3.50

The SAL” Silver Plate Dinner” is Saturday, May 4th, 2019. Social hour starts at 5:00 P.M., Dinner at 6:00 P.M., and the raffle & games start at 7:00 P.M. Dinner will be catered by our kitchen staff and tickets will be available soon at the bar and from SAL members. Join us for a fun evening.

We serve lunch Mon – Fri, 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM, and dinner Mon – Thurs 5:00 PM – 8 PM and Fri - 4:00 PM - 8 :00 PM.

Stop in and see us as we always enjoy serving you and having a lively conversation.

Archie Vickerman, Bar & Hall Board Chairman
